Synopsis

SGL was engaged by Logan City Council (LCC) to undertake an independent review and analysis of key components of a Business Improvement Review of the Council managed Logan Entertainment Centre (LEC) and Community Venues. Out of the review, SGL made a number of recommendations in relation to business planning for Council's Major Venues and Facilities Branch and operations of both the LEC and Community Venues. A number of the SGL recommendations were then incorporated into a Business Improvement Plan that was prepared with the aim of improving the business across a number of key focus areas.

Description

LCC engaged SGL to undertake an independent review and analysis of key components of a Business Improvement Review of the LEC and Community Venues. This included a review of existing business plans and commercial strategies, a review of the LCC prepared Situational Analysis, preparation of an Industry Analysis and provision of recommendations to improve the LEC and Community Venue operations. Through the review SGL identified a number of key areas where LCC could improve its business operation and increase its financial return. These included recommendations around business planning for the Major Venues and Facilities Branch, as well as initiatives or recommendations for improvement to operation of LEC and Community Venues. A number of the SGL recommendations were incorporated into a Business Improvement Plan that was prepared by Council. This plan was based on implementation of strategies that were identified as having potential to improve the business across a number of key focus areas, including:

  • Financial and Business Planning
  • Staffing
  • Marketing and Promotions
  • Programming and Events
  • Food and Beverage Services
  • Bookings, Administration and Ticketing
  • Venue Operations
  • Technical and Production Services
  • Customer Service
  • Asset Management
  • Industry Recognition.

The review found that implementation of the identified strategies will see a range of improvements across the business, and collectively will result in improved operational practices, and financial performance for the LEC and Community Venues.
