Synopsis

The City of Fremantle (CoF) commissioned a demand analysis for proposed indoor sports courts, planned as part of the Fremantle Oval / Stan Reilly redevelopment project. The initial aim and objectives of the study were to:

1: Investigate the community need for indoor sports courts planned for the Fremantle Oval/Stan Reilly redevelopment project.

2: Identify community demand for indoor sports courts in Fremantle.

3: Identify the facility mix required i.e. storage, childcare, office, sports medicine rooms, etc.

4: Research user pay capacity of likely major user groups.

5: Present a number of management options.

Description

Facilities planned for the Fremantle Oval / Stan Reilly Redevelopment were proposed to include 3 to 4 indoor sports courts that would also be useable as an indoor elite training facility for the Fremantle Football Club (FFC). Whilst designated as a training facility for the Fremantle Football Club for 2 hours a day during the week it would be available to the community at other times. The proposed redevelopment site is located within the Fremantle Central Business District (CBD) and was hoped to be a regional facility catering for a range of commercial and community uses. In addition to the indoor sports courts, the redevelopment plans for the site included aquatic recovery pools and a commercial/teaching gymnasium tied to the school of human resources of University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA). The CoF also indicated its intention to provide community facilities on site.

The final report provided a preliminary business plan, including a management and marketing strategy and financial plan.
